The way Facebook counts likes is changing for businesses and celebrity pages, the company announced last Thursday. Deactivated user accounts and users who have passed away will no longer be counted for likes on these pages. This change will result in a small decrease of likes for businesses and celebrities.

However, the intention is to provide a more clear and accurate idea of audiences for these pages. The Facebook blog post that reported this news read, “It’s important to remember, though, that these removed likes represent people who were already inactive on Facebook.”
