The bathroom sign distinguishing men’s and women’s rooms, an image seen by many every day, is now being used as a statement to stimulate a feminism conversation, suggesting that the dress in the female image is maybe not a dress after all.

Programmer and author of itwasneveradress.com, Tania Katan, changed the image typically displayed outside female bathrooms to show the woman as a superhero, a doctor, a graduate, and more. Katan’s goal is to “shift perceptions and assumptions about women and the audacious, sensitive, and powerful gestures they make every single day.”

The campaign, which is now trending, was set to bring about change. “Through storytelling, community building, innovation and creative disruptions, ‘It Was Never a Dress’ will foster necessary conversations, vital voices, and images from around the world that honor all women,” Katan wrote on her website. “When we see women differently, we see the world differently!”
