Jon Stewart’s recent retirement announcement from The Daily Show was quickly trending all over the Internet. This sparked discussion on how the television show was one of the first to engage an audience completely away from the TV by utilizing online videos and the ability of its segments to go viral so many times.

The show grew and developed when the Internet was also growing and developing, along with the introduction of social networks and web culture. The Daily Show was able to keep in touch with its audiences by developing an online presence and adapting the show itself for the online audience by basing the content of the show on its web culture, being one of the first TV shows to do so.
