It’s no surprise that a predictor of success is planning. At the beginning of the year, financial planners recommend reviewing your estate-planning documents to make sure that someone worthy of your trust has the necessary passwords for important accounts. Financial planners recommend including a list of all online accounts, passwords and what should be done with email in the case of an unexpected death.

While this is common knowledge for many, including the account information for your Facebook is something that is not commonly thought to be a part of the process. Only seven states have laws addressing online estate planning, meaning in 43 states, the fate of the social platform is in the hands of the online company.

If you have password-management software, which is often free, you can share the password with your executor, making this process much simpler. Never-the-less, it is important to keep track of your online platform passwords, planning for the future in case of an emergency.
