Snapchat Redesigns App to Boost Media Channels, Ad Revenue

Snapchat is redesigning in an effort to generate more ad revenue and increase the number of people seeing marketing spots on the application.

Snapchat’s Discover feature allows media outlets to create mini mobile magazines that users can view on a daily basis. Ads are slotted in between content on each Discover channel. However, while 150 million people visit Snapchat daily, a discover channel may only be viewed 1 million times.

The redesign will attempt to address this issue by interspersing Discover channels with the app’s Live Stories, which draws tens of millions of viewers for popular events. Additionally, instead of simply displaying a media company’s logo, Discover channels will now include a Cover Page feature that previews stories included in a company’s daily content.
