Instagram Adds Video to Ad Carousel

Following in the steps of Facebook, Instagram is moving more towards video heavy ad content. The photo-sharing social app announced the launch of carousel last March. However, they are now moving towards multiple, longer videos in the same sponsored post.

Videos can now be 60 seconds long. The format is in beta now and will be available to everyone in mid-May. The ads are being sold on a cost-per-thousand-impressions basis. Airbnb, Macy’s and Taco Bell are the first advertisers.

James Quarles, the global head of business and brand development at Instagram is excited about the change. He stated that, “…carousel can help advertisers better achieve [people’s imaginations] with five pieces of content.” The addition of 30- or 60- second ads is similar to TV commercials.
