Snapchat 2.0: What does it mean for marketers?

Snapchat released an update that changes the way its 100 million daily users interact with the app. Users are now able to make video and audio calls that enable them to simultaneously send photos that appear as an overlay. Phone companies are rushing to adapt to the changing free calling system. T-Mobile announced that they are offering data-only plans for $20 per month.

Adweek took note of what else the update lets users do:

  • Record video notes of up to 10 seconds
  • Send audio notes
  • Clips in Snapchat Stories just roll and roll
  • Access to more than 200 stickers

What does this change mean for marketers? Chat 2.0 provides brands the opportunity to have enhanced communications with consumers. Brands are able to engage with audiences in a way that is different than before. They can reach audiences live and tell a story though ads, influencer activities, or their own brand story.
